1. What's Holding You Back?

Let's take a look at what gets in the way. [Read and be prepared to share in your group.]

We all want to be happy. The question is, how long do you want to be happy for?

  • If you want to be happy for an hour, take a nap.

  • If you want to be happy for two hours, have a great meal.

  • If you want to be happy for a whole day, go shopping.

  • If you want to be happy for a week, go fishing.

  • If you want to be happy for a month, take a long vacation.

  • If you want to be happy for a year, inherit a fortune.

But the truth is, you want to be happy forever.

The good news is, God wants you to be happy forever too.

The choice is mine. So, what will really make you happy?

Happiness is the result of right living. Honesty leads to happiness, caring for others leads to happiness, and patience leads to happiness.

So, how do you know what is the right thing to do?

At a basic level, you just know. One of God's great gifts to you is conscience. Your conscience guides you in the way of right living so that you can celebrate the Best Version of Yourself, and live your best life.

2. Examination of Conscience

Review the Ten Commandments document along with the Examination of Conscience document. (Use these to help you during the Sacrament of Reconciliation).

Review the Examination of Conscience and answer the following two question:

  • 1. What do I need to work on to know that I am doing the "right thing"?

  • 2. What am already doing well with and making the right choices?

  • 3. Fruits and Gifts of the Holy Spirit

Look up and review the Fruits and Gifts of the Holy Spirit. Be prepared to identify each of the Fruits and each of the Gifts in class.

Go to the Answer Bible online– Scroll down to Session 26  (Scroll down the document until you reach pages 3, 4 and 5.)

Print out the You are a Gift booklet, complete the exercise to help you discover your Spiritual Gifts and bring the completed booklet to class.
