High School Program: Confirmation Prep Program

WHO: 9th and 10th grade students; Students receive the Sacrament of Confirmation in the spring of 10th grade.

WHAT: A program designed to build community and help young people grow in their spiritual lives. We use a variety of approaches to engage the young people including large group, small group work, service projects and guest speakers. The program is interactive and uses technology.

WHEN: Classes are now offered on both Sunday afternoon from 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM twice a month or Monday evening from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM twice a month

WHERE: Classes are held at the Faith Formation Center within the Parish Center, St. Leo site.

WHY: To build rapport with the young people and to integrate them into the life of the Church.

Confirmation Preparation Guidelines

St. Vincent de Paul Parish Niagara Falls, NY

Mass Attendance:

  • Attending Mass and frequent reception of Holy Communion is highly recommended. Students will be required to sign in at the St. Leo's and Prince of Peace sites to show they have attended Mass at St. Vincent de Paul Parish - or bring a bulletin from another Mass you attended.

Class Attendance:

  • Class attendance is required. Missed classes will require make up. Please email or call Sister Joanne if you will miss a class at 716 297-5010 ext. 202 or sisterjoanne@yahoo.com

Service Requirement:

  • We will require 10 hours of service each year you attend the Confirmation Prep program. More details will be provided in class.

Other Requirements:

  • Select a patron saint for Confirmation - Choose a saint whom you admire as a role model and submit it with a one page write up.
  • Submit the completed sponsor-candidate form to the director of faith formation.
  • If your sponsor is not from St. Vincent de Paul Parish, obtain a letter from the parish they attend, stating that they are a suitable sponsor and practicing Catholic.
  • There will be a Confirmation Retreat that will be required for all 10th grade students. Date and time will be announced after Christmas.
  • Submit a letter to Bishop Michael Fisher requesting the Sacrament of Confirmation
  • Submit a letter to Father Jim requesting the Sacrament of Confirmation.
  • Attend Confirmation Interviews with the parish priests.
  • Attend Confirmation Rehearsal with your sponsor or someone standing in
  • The Bishop’s Office determines when the Sacrament of Confirmation will be celebrated. As soon as we have the date, we will let you know.
